What is LVT?
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring is revolutionising the way we think about vinyl flooring. Gone are the days of flimsy, outdated vinyl sheets. LVT offers a modern, durable, and stylish alternative that’s perfect for any home.
With its multi-layered construction and high-quality materials, LVT combines practicality with stunning design options like herringbone, stone, or tile effects.
Whether you’re looking for water-resistant flooring for your kitchen or a durable option for underfloor heating, LVT is a versatile choice that doesn’t compromise on style or affordability.
What is LVT flooring?
This is not like the traditional vinyl flooring you might remember. LVT or Luxury Vinyl Tile is a vinyl flooring made up of multiple layers of high-quality materials compressed under pressure and high temperature to create a truly hard-wearing flooring. LVT flooring allows our customers to create stunning floors that are affordable and high-quality.
What is LVT made of?
LVT flooring is made of multiple layers to create a stunning end product for your home. Amtico LVT is made by compressing PVC, vinyl, resin along with plasticisers and stabilisers under a high heat to create a hard wearing, durable flooring.
This diagram below shows the different layers that make up a piece of LVT by Amtico. There’s a hardy backing layer, a gorgeous aesthetic layer, 2 performance wear layers and a urethane treatment to top it all off. These multiple layers make Amtico flooring the ideal choice for many homeowners who want stylish options for a reasonable price.
What’s the difference between LVT and traditional vinyl flooring?
Sheet vinyl is commonly sold in a roll and laid in large sheets or pieces. While it appears to be cheaper initially, it can end up more costly to replace an entire sheet. LVT is made up of planks or tiles, allowing homeowners full customisation as well as being more durable thanks to its many wear layers. If something goes wrong, it is much easier to replace a single LVT tile.
At Langan Carpets & Interiors, we stock only the best LVT – that’s Amtico. The Amtico range is highly regarded as not just one of the best in the UK, but around the world. This British brand also provides customers with warranties of at least 15 years, so you get complete peace of mind when purchasing your new flooring.
Is Amtico LVT?
Yes, Amtico is LVT. Amtico LVT flooring is designed and manufactured at their UK factory in Coventry, created with superb quality and the high performance you expect from a heritage brand. Here at Langan Carpets & Interiors, we are proud to not only stock and fit Amtico, but also be an Amtico One Premium Partner, showcasing the very best in British flooring.
Is LVT waterproof?
LVT flooring is often water resistant, with some manufacturers offering ranges that are completely waterproof, unlike laminate flooring. Laminate flooring is prone to lifting, swelling or warping in wet conditions, so it’s best to avoid traditional laminate in your bathroom or kitchen. While the whole Amtico range is water resistant, Amtico Click Smart flooring is 100% waterproof due to its loose-lay fit style that requires no glue, making it ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.
Does LVT need underlay
While some ranges of LVT need underlay, Amtico LVT is permanently glued down so it doesn’t require an underlay. For a perfect finish when laying LVT, it’s vital you use a professional fitter who can prep your base floor to be ready for your new LVT floor. Amtico Click Smart flooring has a prefixed underlay, meaning there’s no need to buy extra.
Can I have underfloor heating with LVT?
Yes! You can have underfloor heating with Luxury Vinyl Tile. We regularly fit Amtico LVT flooring over underfloor heating, as it’s unlikely to warp or crack like some natural materials can.
If you’d like to have underfloor heating with your LVT, this needs to be installed and working before your flooring is laid. Ensure your system is turned off at least 48 hours before your new flooring is put down and leave it turned off for another 48 hours at least before turning it back on. It’s recommended that your underfloor heating does not exceed 27˚C, as this can damage your new LVT floor.
LVT flooring is the perfect blend of style, durability, and practicality, making it a top choice for homeowners who want high-quality flooring without breaking the bank. From its multi-layered construction to its water-resistant properties and compatibility with underfloor heating, LVT offers a range of benefits that traditional sheet vinyl or laminate flooring simply can’t match.
At Langan Carpets & Interiors, we’re proud to be an Amtico One Premium Partner, helping the residents of Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield and beyond for over 30 years.
